English Edition: La Comunidad Hispana and Mexican Consulate working to enhance community health

La Comunidad Hispana and the Consulate of Mexico in Philadelphia will sign Friday a memorandum of understanding to jointly work together to promote health services to Mexican nationals, their families and those of Mexican 

Margarita Queralt Mirkil, President and Chief Executive Officer of LCH, and Mexican Consul Carlos I. Giralt-Cabrales will sign the memorandum at 11:30 a.m. at LCH.

“This partnership is another step forward for LCH and our clients,” Mirkil said. “We are pleased to be working with the Mexican consulate on our mutual goal of providing the best health care possible.”

The memorandum states LCH “provides services for the wellbeing and support” to its clients and is known as a “leader in health issues and recognizes the importance of the binational association and collaboration with the United Mexican 

The objective of the memorandum is to provide and promote at the Consulate quality bilingual, bicultural healthcare education and to disseminate health information through one-to-one education contacts. Also, the agreement calls for help with finding health insurance for individuals and 

LCH will appoint a program coordinator and an outreach worker for the project, also known asVentanilla de Salud, and be responsible for the implementation of the program. LCH will also report to the Mexican Consulate on the progress of the program and will seek out additional funding and health care partners for the project.

Health topics may include: access to health services, immunizations, tuberculosis, proper use of antibiotics, diabetes, cholesterol, back pain, hypertension, prenatal care, dental health, alcohol and substance abuse, asthma, occupational health, among others.
